Tis the Season XOXO

          As i sit here and type this blog post I'm also doing laundry and cooking the meat for the collard greens I'm bringing to Christmas dinner tomorrow (yes i can cook! lol). This year is the first year that I've actually had to visit home for the holidays, and it feels a little weird to know in a couple of weeks my family wont be as close to me as they are now. This Christmas is a special one for me in so many ways and i have been blessed in just as many.

          As you guys know from the last post I am going to be home for about three weeks (its already been 1) and I couldn't just sit idle I havent made a piece of jewelry in ages. Since Ive been home I have made quite  few new pieces, I don't think Ive ever made so many pieces in such a short amount of time. Aside from the gifts I also made a necklace and a set of bracelets. This year I decided to give Deviant Attire and actually made a nice mini collection of pieces just for my family members called Mother of Pearls, Cheesy? yes, yes it is but I love it and each person receiving these pieces is a mother. I also gave a few other things all of which have a special reason behind them, I wrote individual notes to all of my giftees, that part got very emotional for me especially when I got to my grandmothers note. It feels good to even be able to give.

Now of course I had to do a little giving to myself lol............................................................

          So not even a week of being home and I had to hit up the thrift store and I am SO glad I did because I found some amazing pieces both of the times I went. OK first of all I had a black leather jacket that I purchased from F21 back when I worked there ages ago and lets just say......... its about time retire it. I found this AMAZING leather bomber to replace it, thanks to my fabulous friend, for seven bucks! Talk about a deal HOW YOU DOIN!? on that trip I also found an awesome blazer with a leather lapel and a pair of gold polka-dotted Celine-esque pants that I fucking LOVE! The second time I went thrifting with another friend of mine I found some amazing gold belts, two of which I intend to wear as necklaces and one that looks like a Versace. In the midst of all this giving to myself, I purchased a pair of awesome shoes that were pretty much a steal and some F21 jewelry (my addiction), mostly bracelets which are kinda my thing right now two of which look like Hermes bangles, SCORE!

          I have yet to start on my garments that I wanted to make while I was here but I still have some time. I did actually sit down and practice on my sewing machine which is a big plus because I need to get better at sewing. I'm hoping to hook up with either my friend or my cousin and get this garment made I don't want to tell you guys what I have in mind but just know, IT WILL BE DOPE!! well guys I have sat here and written us into Christmas lol I'm going to go tend to this food and my laundry and then get some sleep.

I made it!!!

         All I can say right now is I made it through! lol My first quarter of school is finally over and seriously, thank god. There has been SO much horse shit and drama that I had to go through its ridiculous. From altercations with roommates, unprofessional housing managers, crazy workloads, and almost moving out. The last 10 weeks of my life has definitely been a wild ride but throughout all of that here I am with good grades ready to take on the next two quarters!

      OK so drama aside I have actually done alot of really cool things this past quarter, my fashion styling class was awesome, stressful, but awesome. From the start I was creating inspiration boards, looks for events, going thrift shopping, designing and creating, doing photo shoots, and I even dyed a few things. At one point I got chosen to be a dresser at a fashion show here at a club called Opera. Now I will admit the experience wasn't what I was expecting but all in all I had a good time and I definitely appreciate my professor for admitting that it wasn't exactly organized. The hardest part of this class for me was definitely working in a group, but in the end it turned out great and I definitely learned and started to correct some things about myself.

      I have definitely come across some really cool people that I plan to create bonds with and hopefully even work with at some point. I have a month off of school in which I plan to get on top of using my sewing machine as well as working on some new pieces. I think I am going to go ahead and take advantage of the free sewing tutoring that my school has too. Speaking of jewelry I actually put myself out there and participated in my schools fashion show last week as a vendor, it was so cool I had my own table and everything! Nobody purchased anything but hey there is always a next time and like I said I hope to have some new stuff to show. I can say that people did have very good things to say about my pieces which made me feel good. I have plenty of time to just relax and get ready for January I've decided to take my fashion professor again so I know I am in for a lot of work but  I'm ready for it!

NEWNESS!

Ok so I have been away from this blog for SO long now it feels awesome to finally get on here and bring you guys something new! So much has been going on since my last post, mostly with school and trying to adjust to being surrounded by crazies as well as trying to stay on top of this crazy work load (which in a way i love because it keeps me busy). Speaking of work load, which is what brought on this post for today lets talk about it! Ok so for my Fashion Styling class, which i fucking love by the way, we had to do a little homework and find and up and coming designer that we loved, well i came across one and let me just say that i creamed my pants a little.

The designer that I came across, or should I say designer(s) are a L.A. based duo by the name of Les Aperizes. Although they have only put out two collections, SP/SU and F/W 12', they are already selling in big name department stores. If you know my style by now, and i feel that you should, then you know I get a huge hard on for androgynous fashions and these designer give me that but in a romanticized way. The over sized boxy fits mixed with the flowing fabrics in a very neutral based color palette really draw me in. I believe this duo is one to for sure keep an eye on I for one will be doing just that. I cant wait to see what they come up with for spring 13'. Below are pictures of the designers and one of the pieces that I love, the others saved really small so ill put the link down there as well so you guys can see them full sized, check them out!

The Update!!

          Omg I have finally returned to the blog circuit after like weeks it feels like. So much has happened in my life over the last month and then I didn't have Internet access until the middle of last week but anyway here I am and I have somethings to tell you guys!

        OK first off I have been doing some thinking over the time that I haven't been able to blog while being bombarded with questions  and worries(which BTW is quite entertaining) by my really good friend who has started her own blog (goldsequins-blackleather.blogspot.com) that I find amazing so far and is only going to get better I'm sure. I think that I want to change up the topics of my blog a little and cover more things about myself and my experiences as well as fashion and other related things. I think when I first started this blog all I wanted to cover was forward men's fashion, which I love, but I never gave any insight into who I was and what makes me fall in love so much with these designs.  So yea long story short, because I feel like I'm rambling, I will be changing up the topics a little more than I have in the past.

 

SO I have officially started my life as an out of state college student!! I moved from my hometown of Cincinnati, OH to Atlanta, GA about two weeks ago now. I have never been this far away from home on my own, I mean I do have family here but still. I go to a school called AIU which stands for American Intercontinental University where I'm majoring in Fashion Marketing. I had my first week of classes last week and I found them to be interesting to say the least. I pretty much like all of my teachers so far because they all seem very REAL. My program chair is a riot she reminds me alot of my highschool sales teacher. From the orientation that my family and I sat through I got really excited to be here and plan to take full advantage of the resources and opportunities that the school has, and they have PLENTY.

 

As I'm sitting here in my apartment listening to Erykah Badu and wondering why the hell my roommates sleep ALL day, its almost noon, I'm realizing how truly not used to having roommates I am and I have two. Move in day kind of set the tone for what this living arrangement would be like. Being who I am I tried introducing myself to everyone, one of my roommates totally rejected my approach, we will call him roommate A. Through a conversation later on with my other roommate, lets call him roommate B, I found out that roommate A was homophobic, oh fuck here we go. I thought in this day and age when you go to college encountering homos would be something you would just get ready to deal with. You know, I love how some people always assume that the gays want them *NEWSFLASH* they don't! So for now I play nice. I did have a third roommate but I think he is moving to the other complex.

 

I have gone out on the town once since I've been here, I was beginning to worry I wouldn't have time to get all jazzy and have some fun. That night was quite an experience for many different reasons, I did enjoy myself though. As usual I felt over dressed and did notice that the locals club attire is a bit different from what I saw back home. The atmosphere was definitely what I would call hood, and I loved it! Every now and then I feel the need to go out and dance to some ratchet ass music in a club full of smoke, naked strippers, and interesting fashion choices (what I'm sure some think of mine). I would like to experience the other side of the Atlanta nightlife at some point as well but for now that night will suffice, don't want to get too caught up in partying and lose sight on what I came down here for. here is a pic of what I wore, the blurriness is caused by all the smoke in the air oh and excuse the tag on the belt, it was the test picture before I left haha.

Diamond in the rough

        When I think of a Diamond in the rough I think of something/someone with potential that has yet to be brought out and made into something amazing. Only with a keen eye and patience can one transform this potential into something that everyone will notice.........
       HEY GUYS!!! I have been busy busy busy, work, packing, designing, dealing with life. I just havent been able to post like I would like to however I have a little down time right now and here I am with amazing news!!
         I have spent hours and days working on these designs for this collection and once again I have pleased myself with what has been created which makes it all SO worth it . This time around I went with a very classic color palette; black and white. Of course you know that I cant just keep it simple as it has to be done in true Deviant Attire fashion! I went for a tribal print and incorporated white quartz with gunmetal finishes. To me the white quartz resembles raw diamond which is part of where this collection got its name. I wanted to create a feeling of being able to go from grunge/street to classy/elegant and I think each piece definitely has that versatility and the androgynous aura that I love much. I used materials that alone some wouldn't call glamorous and transformed them into the pieces that I saw them being.
        I am working on getting everything photographed and finished like I want it so stay tuned. I hope you guys love the pieces as much as I do!!!
